ICYMI -- Small Press Comics Criticism and Whatnot for 12/5/16 to 12/11/16

Highlighting some great small press comics criticism being published, as well as other random things that have caught my eye over the past week.

COMICS CRITICISM

* Edwin Turner reviews JACOB BLADDERS AND THE STATE OF THE ART by Roman Muradov, in which "Muradov ironizes the creative process, but he also points to it as an imaginative renewal."

* Rebecca Henely reviews TOWARD A HOT JEW: GRAPHIC ESSAYS by Miriam Libicki, "one of the fullest and most unique attempts to have the discussion on intra-community Jewish racism that I've ever seen, and well worth checking out."

* Nivea Serrao reviews Isabel Greenberg's THE ONE HUNDRED NIGHTS OF HERO: A GRAPHIC NOVEL which "is as much about the power of storytelling as it is the act of doing so."

* John Seven takes a look at the "mesmerizing and beautifully weird memoir" EVERYTHING IS TEETH by novelist Evie Wyld and illustrator Joe Sumner.

* Stephanie Tran reviews Norm Harper and Matthew Foltz-Gray's RIKKI, a retelling of Rudyard Kipling's short story "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi".

* Dan Nadel has some scattered thoughts on COMICS HE'S BEEN READING.

* J. Caleb Mozzocco takes a look at Ron Wimberly's PRINCE OF CATS -- still the best comic created in the first half of the early 2010s.

* Over on his High-Low blog, Rob Clough is doing a herculean job of looking at the work of graduates from the CENTER FOR CARTOON STUDIES.

* It's that time of the year again -- the end of this shitty 365 days means everyone starts dusting off their BEST OF THE YEAR lists (I'm no exception, please forgive me):

WHATNOT

* Shea Hennum interviews First Second's Editorial and Creative Director MARK SIEGEL and talks about "Nurturing the 'New Mainstream' of Comic Books".

* Placing me in the intellectual quandary of trying to deal with superhero books created by small press heavyweights (albeit all of them white men) Fantagraphics announces the launch of ALL TIME COMICS with the talents of Josh Bayer, Noah Van Sciver, Benjamin Marra, and Al Milgrom.

* Here's a quick preview of Box Brown's new book on the life of ANDY KAUFMAN.

* Ron Wimberly's Entire Story from the ATTACK ON TITAN Anthology!!

* Over on The Nib, an Anonymous artist draws WORN OUT: A WOMAN'S CLOTHING ISN'T A STATEMENT.

* M. Slade's HERE'S WHAT TRIGGER WARNINGS ARE -- AND WHAT THEY'RE NOT.

* J.A. Micheline continues her Critical Jam series about Comics Criticism. This time she takes a very well thought out look at ON CONFLICTS OF INTEREST.

* Comic Bulletin's own Chase Magnett writes this beautiful piece called IT'S TIME TO GROW UP AND SHAVE YOUR HEAD.

* Nick Hanover's solid exploration of bad intentions gone worse, OUTRAGEOUSLY UNFUNNY: ABRAMS' BAD LITTLE CHILDREN'S BOOKS AND THE DEATH OF SATIRE
